Extreme Product Placement in the Marx Brothers' "LOVE HAPPY" (1949)

"Love Happy" was conceived as a solo vehicle for Harpo.

But, as usual, Chico needed the money.
And Groucho got lured into it too.

Before it was over, the producers were short on cash as well...
...and sold ad-space in the movie.

The big chase finale is wall-to-wall product placement.

(See if you can spot the blooper in the Mobilgas shot at 1:15.)

I neither own nor claim any rights to this material.  Just having some fun with it. Thanks for watching!

I've read that Chico was meant to be in the movie from very early on-in a letter, Groucho mentioned "a film Ben Hecht is writing for Harpo and Chico.

That's probably true, but I've also read that the film originated as an attempt to cast Harpo as a Chaplinesque type of solo character. Chico wanted in, and the producers said okay as long as they persuaded Groucho to come aboard and make it an official Marx Brothers picture.
