Was TCM's Robert Osborne Ever On "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES"? (video)

Years before gaining fame as the film-savvy host of Turner Classic Movies...

...Robert Osborne appeared in the 1962 pilot episode of "The Beverly Hillbillies."

Which, at first, was titled "The Hillbillies of Beverly Hills."

More than just a guest actor, Osborne was right there at the series' start.

Later, of course, we'd know him as the soft-spoken gentleman...

...who introduced our favorite classic films on TCM.

Hey, Isn't That Mr. Drysdale? ("THE GREEN HORNET" Serial, 1940)(video)

While watching the 1940 serial "The Green Hornet"...

...we see an actor who looks very familiar.

Isn't that Mr. Drysdale from "The Beverly Hillbillies"?

Sure enough, it is.

Over two decades later, Raymond Bailey would be a television icon.

But here, he's a young, uncredited bit player.

John Wayne Meets Granny: "The Beverly Hillbillies" (video)

Some Native American businessmen are coming to Los Angeles...

...to discuss a deal with Mr. Drysdale.

But Granny gets her wires crossed and thinks they're coming to attack.

Mr. Drysdale hires some actors from central casting to humor her.

Through it all she keeps invoking the name of John Wayne.

And finally, after it's all over, who should show up but the man himself!

(From S5 E20: "The Indians Are Coming")
