Saban Films Acquires Tribeca Thriller "DON’T TELL A SOUL" with Rainn Wilson, Mena Suvari, Jack Dylan Grazer and Fionn Whitehead

SABAN FILMS ACQUIRES TRIBECA THRILLER “DON’T TELL A SOUL” WITH RAINN WILSON, MENA SUVARI, JACK DYLAN GRAZER AND FIONN WHITEHEAD

LOS ANGELES (May 20, 2020) – Saban Films announced today that they have acquired North American rights to Alex McAulay’s (Flower) directorial debut Don’t Tell a Soul from Unbridled Films and Mangano Movies & Media.

Penned by McAulay, the thriller was an official selection of the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival and stars Jack Dylan Grazer (Shazam!, It), Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk, The Children Act), Mena Suvari (American Beauty, American Pie franchise) and Emmy Award® nominated Rainn Wilson (“The Office,” The Meg).  Chris Mangano (Standing Up, Falling Down) and Merry-Kay Poe produced with Steve Poe, Matt Bronson and John Neace as executive producers, and Brian Tanke, Max Neace and Alex McAulay as co-producers.

Don’t Tell A Soul follows two young brothers (Whitehead, Grazer) who, when robbing a house to pay for their sick mother’s medical bills (Suvari), cause a security guard (Wilson) to fall into a forgotten well.  Trapped, the security guard must try to outsmart these two teenagers, as the brothers also come head to head.

Saban Films’ Bill Bromiley commented, “During these trying times, we at Saban thrive to continue bringing entertainment to our audiences and provide a platform for indie films.  Don’t Tell a Soul is an entertaining and thrilling tale that audiences will love.  We are proud to support Alex and the whole team.”

Shot entirely on location in Kentucky, Don’t Tell a Soul marks the debut production for Poe’s Kentucky based production company, Unbridled Films, and the second production for Mangano’s Mangano Movies & Media.  The film would have served as the second premiere in a row for Mangano at Tribeca, having premiered the critically embraced Billy Crystal dramedy Standing Up, Falling Down there last year, which was released theatrically in February.

Producer Merry-Kay Poe stated, “It was a true pleasure to work with such a great cast and production team.  Alex’s masterful script showcases four great actors each in a new dimension, which is very exciting to watch. We are very pleased to be working with Saban Films to share every twist and turn of Don’t Tell A Soul with a wide audience.”

Producer Chris Mangano added, “Don’t Tell a Soul is a special film that will surprise a lot of people, and Saban Films genuinely understands its appeal to both commercial and critical audiences.  We could not be in better hands.”

Bill Bromiley and Jonathan Saba negotiated the deal for Saban Films along with UTA Independent Film Group on behalf of the filmmakers.

Saban Films continues to grow its presence in the industry, remaining active in the acquisition, production and distribution space. The company’s successes have run the gamut from critically acclaimed theatrical films such as The Homesman starring Hilary Swank, to two of the biggest Fathom events with horror icon and heavy metal mastermind Rob Zombie’s 3 From Hell last year and Kevin Smith’s Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, the sequel to the 2001 comedy Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back which the company partnered on after coming onboard at script stage. Its upcoming slate includes: Nicol Paone’s Friendsgiving with Malin Akerman, Christine Taylor, Jane Seymour, Kat Dennings and Chelsea Peretti; John Suits’ Breach starring Bruce Willis; and Twist starring Michael Caine, Lena Headey and Rita Ora.

Exploring the Legacy and Cult of "SHOWGIRLS" -- Tribeca '19: Documentary "YOU DON'T NOMI"

"YOU  DON'T  NOMI"

Directed by  Jeffrey McHale

2019 Tribeca Film Festival

Synopsis: When Showgirls was released in 1995, Paul Verhoeven’s salacious NC-17 look at Vegas dancers was met by critics and audiences with near universal derision. But in the intervening decades, the film has inspired an ever-growing fan community and impassioned debate over its quality, artistic intent and messages about sex and gender.

Guided by a chorus of film critics, scholars, and fervent devotees, Jeffrey McHale's documentary explores the legacy and broader implications of Showgirls, while diving into its cultural inspirations as well as its place in Verhoeven’s filmography.

In tracing Showgirls' journey from notorious flop to cult classic and unlikely artistic resurrection, YOU DON’T NOMI takes a thought-provoking and entertaining look at an unforgettable piece of American popular culture and the surprising ways we connect with film and each other.

"SCARFACE" Returns to Theaters for Special 35th Anniversary Celebration feat. Tribeca Film Festival Reunion Talk

SCREENVISION MEDIA, UNIVERSAL PICTURES, AND TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCE THEATRE EVENT FOR 35TH ANNIVERSARY OF "SCARFACE"

The Cult-Classic Will Return to Theatres Nationwide With Special Screening of Tribeca Film Festival Talk Featuring Brian DePalma, Al Pacino, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Steven Bauer

New York, N.Y., May 21, 2018 – Universal Pictures, Screenvision Media, a national leader in cinema advertising, and Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, announced today the return of Scarface to movie theatres nationwide, in celebration of its 35th anniversary. Additionally, film fans outside of New York will have the chance to participate in a Tribeca Film Festival retrospective event on the big screen for the first time ever.

As part of the 35th anniversary celebrations, moviegoers are invited to watch the cult classic film followed by the Tribeca Film Festival post screening conversation, during which Scarface director Brian De Palma, along with actors Al Pacino, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Steven Bauer reunited to discuss the film and its lasting impact. Screenings will take place at select theatres in top cites nationwide such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Dallas on June 10, 11, and 13.

“Scarface is a timeless film that has influenced pop culture in so many ways over the last 35 years. We’re thrilled to partner with Universal Pictures and Tribeca Film Festival to bring it back to the big screen in celebration of its anniversary,” said Darryl Schaffer, executive vice president of operations and exhibitor relations, Screenvision Media. “The Tribeca Film Festival talk was an important commemoration of the film. We’re excited to extend it to the big screen and provide fans a behind-the-scenes insight into what production was like in the 1980s.”

Brian De Palma’s modernization of Howard Hawks’ 1932 classic Scarface is a somber consideration for the humanizing motives of evil men. The film received three Golden Globe nominations and remains one of the most referenced films in pop culture. Al Pacino helped garner a huge cult following for the film after delivering one of his riskiest performance in this career-defining role.

“Tribeca has a rich history of producing legendary reunion events. We are thrilled to be able to replicate the Festival experience with audiences across the country. Our gratitude to Screenvision and Universal,” said Paula Weinstein, EVP, Tribeca Enterprises. “Scarface has had a strong influence on popular culture and reuniting the cast for the 35th anniversary was an evening not to forget.”

Late at night, while Joanne thinks he is working, Joseph prowls the streets of Los Angeles, deliberately courting danger. Joanne is growing worried about Joseph’s odd behavior. But not as worried as she should be.
