Award-winning actor Andy Serkis shares experiences and advice with Coventry University students
Acclaimed actor and director Andy Serkis visited Coventry University to share his experiences and knowledge with aspiring actors, directors and media producers.
The BAFTA, SAG and Emmy award-winner spent more than two hours delivering an inspiring talk to students, offering unique insights, sharing advice with those looking to follow him into the film industry and telling tales about some of the star-studded movies he has featured in.

Best-known for his role as Gollum in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Serkis also took a tour of the university’s arts and humanities facilities, including the development of new immersive studios on Cox Street. He also visited the Herbert Art Gallery, which sits in the shadow of Coventry Cathedral in University Square.
At the end of his Q&A session, Serkis enjoyed greeting and taking selfies with students, as well as sharing messages of encouragement with many of them. In answer to one student’s question, he said self-belief was vital to landing the biggest acting roles.
He said: “Recruiters and directors are waiting for you to be the one, they want you to be amazing. You need to go in there thinking ‘they want me’ and honestly, that goes a very long way.”
His visit built on the fantastic working relationship he has established with Coventry University and the university’s Chancellor Margaret Casely-Hayford. It follows his appearance as a guest speaker as part of the university’s Degree Show earlier this year.
He added: “I have loved working with Coventry, both the university and the city as a whole. It’s such a diverse and progressive place that recognises everyone’s importance. It was a real joy to be able to share my experiences with Coventry University students and take some great questions from them too.
“What’s extraordinary about this place is that there’s clearly a lot of talent here and that’s a big part of why we are here. The relationship between the university and the city is very palpable – it’s fabulous.”
Reece Halford, a media production student at Coventry University, said: “To have Andy Serkis here at Coventry University has been amazing. As an aspiring actor/director, hearing him speak has been really inspirational for me and his insight will undoubtedly help me on my journey.
“It’s great to see someone of Andy’s brilliance here at Coventry University and taking so much time to speak to us – especially while Coventry is the UK City of Culture, there’s a really good aura around the place.”

SANZARU is a horror-thriller that tells the story of a nurse hired to care for an elderly woman who uncovers a shocking family secret. Evelyn, a young Filipina nurse, is living on an isolated estate while taking care of Dena, the aging matriarch of a Texas family. As Dena slips deeper into dementia, Evelyn begins to sense something ominous lurking behind the walls. Is the house a conduit for a malevolent supernatural force? Or is she just hearing things? As Evelyn’s paranoia pushes her to uncover her employer’s awful past, she may not be prepared for the havoc her curiosity will unlock.

Instantly recognisable props from the Star Wars franchise including a Stormtrooper helmet from Return of the Jedi (1983) and Anakin Skywalker’s (Hayden Christensen) lightsaber from Revenge of the Sith (2005) are to be sold as part of Prop Store’s Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction between Tuesday 9th to Thursday 11th November 2021.
Other fantastic lots include Darth Maul’s (Ray Park) hero lightsaber from The Phantom Menace (1999) which is estimated to sell between £40,000 - £60,000 ($55,000 - $82,500) and C-3PO’s (Anthony Daniels) Hand from The Empire Strikes Back (1980), estimated between £15,000 – £20,000 ($20,610 - $27,480).

Halloween Kills Turns Michael Myers Into a Lobotomized Armored Tank

NEW YORK—Whatever else you can say about Halloween Kills, it’s ballsy as all get-out.
First of all, it’s got a cast of millions. If Haddonfield, Illinois, has a population of, say, 50,000, then every citizen is in this movie.
And since the writers are so dedicated to maintaining the reality of the 1978 movie, you sometimes have to consult a genealogy chart or a Wikipedia timeline to make sure you’re following along. We’ve got three generations of Laurie Strode’s family. We’ve got the sons and daughters of every character in the original, and sometimes grandchildren as well. We’ve got cops that were there at the beginning and cops that knew cops who were there at the beginning. We’ve got all the kids who were being tended by babysitters on Halloween night 1978, with a huge character arc in this film for Tommy Doyle. We’ve got an Officer Hawkins backstory that plays out in the one hour after the first movie but is not revealed until this movie. They even managed to hire a Donald Pleasence lookalike as Dr. Loomis and convince me it was him.
Most importantly, we’ve got a Michael Myers who is now so indestructible that he runs the risk of becoming the equivalent of a recurring weather event or an earthquake fault, as though Haddonfield rests on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius so occasionally people have to die—and there’s nothing you can do about it.
This idea is actually made explicit in the final “essence of evil” speech by Jamie Lee Curtis when she goes on about how you can never kill “the boogeyman” (used interchangeably with Michael Myers) because brute force doesn’t work on him. She doesn’t say what does work on him, but I have to imagine we’ll find out in Halloween Ends, the upcoming final installment in the David Gordon Green trilogy that began with Halloween 2018.
But the reason I say the movie is ballsy is that this is the first Halloween movie—how many have there been? an even dozen?—in which Michael doesn’t die. I mean, Michael never really dies or there wouldn’t be twelve movies, but usually he appears to die and is revivified in the opening scene of the next sequel. But David Gordon Green is a cruel man. He gives us a fairly decent Michael beat-down sequence with the equivalent of torch-bearing villagers (it’s Haddonfield, they have baseball bats instead of torches), but that’s it. He then goes ahead and gives us the opening scene of Halloween Ends. In other words, he denies us the satisfaction of seeing Michael destroyed. He assumes we’ll just go with it—and we will! He’s created the ultimate cliffhanger here. We all know there’s one more movie. We now know that Michael is indestructible and, according to Laurie Strode, possibly supernatural. It’s gonna take something nuclear and spiritual to close out the trilogy.

DeskPop Entertainment has launched as a new independent film distribution label, and kicks off its debut with the October 22 release of the horror-thriller, 13 Fanboy. The film will have a day and date release in theaters, as well as premium video on demand.
13 Fanboy is about an obsessed fan, unable to distinguish fiction from reality, who stalks his favorite actors from the Friday the 13th films and beyond, terrorizing and killing them one by one like his idol, Jason Voorhees. The story follows Kelsie Voorhees, who as a child witnesses the murder of her grandmother, Friday the 13th actress Deborah Voorhees, at the hands of this crazed fanboy. As an adult, Kelsie discovers her grandmother isn’t the only victim, and the killer is still hunting his favorite cast members, as he can’t seem to separate the characters in the movies from their real-life personas.
“Horror fans are the best,” says director Deborah Voorhees, star of Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning, who also stars in the film as herself, “but every once in a while you get someone who feels scary.” When Voorhees met with veteran producer Joel Paul Reisig, the idea of a fan turning into a stalker frightened her. “There is that tiny unspoken fear inside that something like this could actually happen,” she says. “After several sleepless nights I realized that if it scared me this much, it would scare others too.”
Together Voorhees and Reisig wrote the script, then gathered up some of the most popular actors from the original Friday the 13th movies and other horror greats. The cast features actors and actresses from the Friday the 13th films, along with iconic scream queens playing fictionalized versions of themselves. The star lineup features Dee Wallace (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Cujo), Cory Feldman (Lost Boys, Goonies, Stand by Me), Kane Hodder & C.J. Graham (Friday the 13th Series), and Judi Aronson (Weird Science, Friday the 13th).

Originally, The Daily Wire planned to release White Knuckle in the first quarter of next year; however, the conservative media company has decided to reschedule the action film’s release and fast-track production on a new western thriller, Terror on the Prairie, starring and produced by former Disney Mandalorian actress Gina Carano.
“With the precariousness of the current Hollywood landscape and the remarkable overreach by its ruling class, we made the tough, but prudent choice to ride further out into the wild west to make movies on our own terms. The Daily Wire has given Gina and our team all the support any producers could ask for. Now, we must go make them proud by producing something that is truly great,” said producer Dallas Sonnier (Bone Tomahawk and Run Hide Fight).
Directed by Michael Polish (Northfork and The Astronaut Farmer), Terror on the Prairie features a pioneering family that fights back against a gang of vicious outlaws that is terrorizing them on their newly built farm in the great plains of Montana. Nelson was originally a client of Sonnier’s former management firm Caliber Media a decade ago, and the two reconnected at just the right time. Nelson sent the Terror script to Sonnier and Carano just days before they enthusiastically greenlit the movie with The Daily Wire’s co-CEO Jeremy Boreing.
Boreing, along with his Daily Wire co-founders Ben Shapiro and Caleb Robinson will executive produce, alongside Nicolas Chartier and Jonathan Deckter of Los Angeles-based Voltage Pictures, who will also handle foreign sales of the film. Mills and Danielle Cox also executive produce.
Earlier this year, The Daily Wire announced its foray into entertainment with the acquisition of Kyle Rankin’s Run Hide Fight from Bonfire Legend. The action-packed hit drew 300,000 viewers during its live premiere in January.

Toronto, ON - Following a successful run on the global film festival circuit, Indiecan Entertainment has announced the VOD release of Marc Price's Nightshooters. The British black comedy action film will be available in North America on a number of digital and cable platforms beginning November 2nd.
Nightshooters combines a fun gangster film, a solid comedy, and a knowing take on the world of film production. The film is anchored by a first-class cast: celebrated stuntman Jean-Paul Ly (Jailbreak, F9: The Fast Saga, Doctor Strange) headlines as indie stuntman Donnie. The cast is rounded out by Doug Allen ("Band of Brothers", "Law & Order", "The Royals"), BAFTA award winner Nicolas Aaron (Touching the Void, "Outlander"), Rosanna Hoult (The Lobster, Captain America: The First Avenger, Kill Your Friends, Adulthood), Wendy Glenn (You’re Next, "The L Word") and Philip Barantini ("Band of Brothers", Ned Kelly).
Nightshooters had its world premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in London, kicking off a global screening tour. The action comedy was nominated for Best UK Feature at Raindance, featured in the Top Ten Audience awards at Leeds International Film Festival and won the Best Action Film Award at Michigan's Thriller Chiller.

Nightshooters is the story of a group of filmmakers illegally shooting a low budget film in an abandoned office building slated for demolition. When they inadvertently witness and film a gangland execution in the opposite building, they have to use all their skills and wits to survive the night whilst being relentlessly pursued by the gang who are hellbent on not leaving any witness alive.
