Los Angeles, CA (July 18, 2019) – Raja Gosnell (The Smurfs franchise, Scooby Doo, Never Been Kissed) has signed on to direct the live-action family film Santa: The Adventure Begins from a script penned by Tamara Taillie in her feature film debut. Armory Films’ Christopher Lemole and Tim Zajaros (The Peanut Butter Falcon, Arctic, Mudbound) have come on board to produce alongside DNF Pictures’ Dean Altit (Realms, The Misfits) and K. JAM Media’s Kia Jam. (Lucky Number Slevin, The Misfits) Academy Award winner Barrie Osborne(Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, Mulan) is executive producing and K. JAM Media’s Carolina Vianna Leite will serve as co-producer.

Santa: The Adventure Begins will bring the world's most beloved and recognizable mythical persona to life in an exciting holiday epic. This legendary story of Santa Claus reveals his humble origins as an orphan and young would-be toymaker. In a quest to know his true identity, Santa embarks upon a journey to the forbidden North. With a little help from his friends, Santa discovers the source of his extraordinary magic, and we learn how Santa finds his true love, his forever home and his destiny. Marisol Roncali and Chelsea Bloch (Deadpool 2, Fast &Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Jungle Cruise) are currently casting with principal photography set to begin late this year in Cologne, Germany, in cooperation with MMC Studios.

Gosnell began his career as an editor working on classic films including: Academy Award® nominee Pretty Woman, Academy Award® nominee Home Alone and Academy Award® winner Mrs. Doubtfire. Gosnell is represented by Paradigm Talent Agency.

Filmmaker Ed Wood persuaded her to appear in his magnum opus, "Plan 9 From Outer Space."

She plays "Vampire Girl", an undead woman resurrected by space aliens.

Also in the cast are Swedish wrestler Tor Johnson...
...and a stand-in for the late Bela Lugosi.

The film didn't do much for Vampira's career at the time.

But bad movie fans would rediscover it decades later...
...and elevate it to the status of a revered classic.

Production Starts July 16

LOS ANGELES (July 15, 2019) Caren Pistorius has landed the lead role opposite Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe in Unhinged, the psychological thriller from Solstice Studios, which starts production July 16 in New Orleans. The film is directed by Derrick Borte (American Dreamer), written by Carl Ellsworth (Disturbia, Red Eye) and produced by Lisa Ellzey (Warrior, Kingdom of Heaven).

Unhinged takes an ordinary, everyday incident to its most terrifying conclusion in telling the story of Rachel (Pistorius), a mother who leans on her horn at the wrong time, to the wrong guy (Crowe). "Road rage" doesn't begin to describe what he's about to do to her and everyone she knows. Solstice is targeting a third quarter 2020 wide U.S. theatrical release.

Pistorius was most recently seen in Peter Jackson’s Mortal Engines and co-starred with Julianne Moore in Gloria Bell. Prior to that she received critical acclaim starring alongside Michael Fassbender in Slow West. Pistorius is repped by CAA and RGM in Australia.

“Caren has that magical thing seen in all great actresses, you just believe she’s inhabiting the skin of the character she’s playing.” said Crowe. “Derrick went through a long casting process that culminated in an old school audition with both of us in the room. She claimed that audition in a definitive way. I know she’s been working a long time and has some great credits, but casting Caren still feels like we’ve made a discovery. It’s exciting.”

Solstice Studios is an independent movie company based in Los Angeles, founded in October 2018. The firm develops, fully finances, produces, sells internationally and distributes feature films in the U.S. on a wide-release basis. Solstice plans to produce 3-5 movies per year for a global audience—generally in the $20-80M budget range. It also plans to co-finance or acquire another 2-3 films per year for wide US distribution. The company has a partnership with Ingenious Media.

The Solstice team has a $5 billion production track record and is expected to grow to 65 people in its first year. In Don’t Let Go, detective Jack Radcliff (Oyelowo) gets a shocking phone call from his recently-murdered niece Ashley (Reid). Working together across time, they race to solve her murder before it can happen.

NEW YORK (July 11, 2019) -- Marking the feature debut of director Kerry Harris with a script written by Dan V. Shea and based on a story by Harris and Shea, DREAMKATCHER follows a Manhattan therapist (RADHA MITCHELL) who travels upstate with her boyfriend (HENRY THOMAS) and his orphaned son (FINLAY WOJTAK-HISSONG) who is tormented by nightmares of his dead mother. When the husband is forced to return to the city, the therapist remains with the boy and they encounter a mysterious neighbor (LIN SHAYE) in the woods.

Jules Wilcox (Under The Silver Lake, Bloodline) and Joseph Bishara (Insidious, The Conjuring) round out the cast in supporting roles.

The combined gross box office earnings of the cast exceed the $1 Billion mark. The filmmakers are eyeing a series of films based on the premise.

How The Frankenstein Monster Was Wasted In "House Of Dracula" (1945) (video)

In Universal's final serious Frankenstein film...

...Glenn Strange's Monster doesn't have much to do.

He gets discovered buried in mud in a cave under Dr. Edelmann's castle.

Then he ends up on a lab table...
...to be revived during the film's finale.

Whereupon he stomps around for a minute or so...
...before being replaced by stock footage of Lon Chaney's Monster from GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN.

Earlier, however, after being infected with Dracula's blood...
...Dr. Edelmann dreams of using the Monster to terrorize the village.

These scenes were actually shot, yet only a few seconds were used.

It's a dreadful waste, and a missed opportunity...
...for a more interesting and eventful storyline for the Monster.

Instead of a rerun of Lon Chaney stomping around in a fire.

SILENT PANIC -- Movie Review by Porfle

With his second feature SILENT PANIC (2018), indie writer-director Kyle Schadt (SUNLAND) goes for an intense character-driven thriller and manages to create a flawed but fairly absorbing film.

Three friends on a camping trip in the mountains return to their car to find that someone has deposited the dead body of a young woman in the trunk during their absence.

Bookish Dom (Jay Habre) and divorced single dad Bobby (Joseph Martinez) want to call the police and report the find, but ex-con Eagle (Sean Nateghi), convinced that this will land him back in prison, bullies the other two into staying silent while he concocts a hairbrained alternate plan.

The first half of SILENT PANIC is just that, with the three running around in frantic indecision as they struggle to maintain in front of their increasingly suspicious wives and girlfriends, all the while clashing with each other as their continued silence on the matter makes them look ever more guilty.

This is where the film delivered pretty much what I was expecting while also revealing its shortcomings in various areas, particularly in regard to some rather iffy dialogue and acting that tends to resemble drama class exercises.

Some situations even come off as unintentionally funny in a "Dude, Why Is There A Body In My Trunk?" kind of way, as when Eagle leaves his car sitting in a bad neighborhood with the keys in it, hoping it will get stolen, and it ends up being driven around by his unsuspecting wife during a day of shopping.

Once all this stuff starts to settle down, however, the story becomes more of a downbeat character study that explores how the situation brings out the worst in these guys with desperation and self-preservation kicking in.

So rather than building to some explosively dramatic action-suspense finale, the story becomes one of heartrending melancholy not only for the lead characters but for their innocent loved ones as well, all of whom face major life changes fraught with emotional turmoil.

The main titles sequence offers the most impressive visuals in the entire film, although Schadt manages some striking images amidst the workmanlike cinematography and occasional overuse of shaky-cam. Something called "Field Observations" contributes an interesting musical score.

An unpolished but earnest effort, SILENT PANIC struck me as wildly uneven yet ultimately worthwhile. The ending is abrupt in a good kind of way, leaving us to ponder what we've seen and what will come for the characters still able to pick up the pieces of their lives.
