Laurel & Hardy's Most Disturbing Endings! (video)

As funny as Stan and Ollie were, they had a morbid streak...

...often ending their comedies in grotesque style...

...which one might consider more nightmarish than funny!

"Midnight Patrol" (1933)
"Going Bye Bye" (1934)
"The Live Ghost" (1934)
"The Bohemian Girl" (1936)
"The Bullfighters" (1945)

Laurel & Hardy in "Hollywood Party" (1934) with Lupe Velez (video)

"Hollywood Party" (1934) is a hodge-podge of loosely-linked comedy sketches.

Many contemporary comics appear including Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.

Although on loan to MGM, their Hal Roach Studios comedy style is in full effect.

The highlight is Stan and Ollie's tit-for-tat battle with a feisty Lupe Velez.

Stan Laurel Turns Into A Monster In "Dr. Pyckle And Mr. Pryde" (1925) (video)

Before teaming up with Oliver Hardy...

...Stan Laurel did a solo series of silent comedies.

"Dr. Pyckle and Mr. Pryde" spoofs the Jekyll and Hyde story...
...particularly the 1920 John Barrymore version.

Fortunately, this "Hyde" is more interested in mischief than murder.

Our Gang's "Pete the Pup" guest stars.

The original ending seems to be lost, as the existing one is rather abrupt.

Laurel & Hardy--"Jeanie Weenie" Scene (BEAU HUNKS, 1931) (video)

Stanley reads a letter to Ollie from his sweetheart Jeanie...

...in which she informs him that he's being dumped.

Stan's nonplussed, but Ollie reacts with melodramatic angst.

The scene plays out in a subtly comical way...

...and then ends with a sudden, hilarious burst of slapstick.
