DREAM 1 and 2 Japanese R2 DVD Release Dates Set

Picked this up from CDJapan's website today.

This will be a big boon since a Japanese version of DREAM 1 that is not clipped has yet to appear.

These DVDs are Region 2, but they will be in anamorhpic widescreen. CDJapan claims they will only have Stereo audio, but this is most likely based on early information they received.

DREAM 1 July 23rd for around 43 USD.

DREAM 2 July 23rd for around 43 USD

Evil Dead Three Disc Collectors Edition from Anchor Bay

Another year, another ED release. :) In all seriousness, this seems like a really well put together edition that will make it easier for a double or more-dip. I like the fact that AB is upfront about the fact that many people have owned it more than once.

Buy Evil Dead Collectors Edition at Amazon.com and help support HK AND CULT FILM NEWS.

Another Evil Dead DVD release? You bet your Ash!

THE EVIL DEAD ULTIMATE EDITION

GETS THE “ANCHOR BAY COLLECTION”

TREATMENT WITH 3-DISC DVD SET

Sam Raimi’s legendary horror classic rises December 18th with reconstructed and restored scenes for the first time ever

BURBANK, CA – Just when you thought you’d seen it all in The Evil Dead, Anchor Bay Entertainment will commemorate the film’s 25th anniversary with the all-new, three-disc The Evil Dead Ultimate Edition on December 18th, just in time for the holidays, making it the “ultimate” stocking-stuffer for the horror fans in your life. SRP is $34.97 and pre-book is November 15th. The Evil Dead Ultimate Edition will be released under the prestigious “Anchor Bay Collection” brand, which has previously released comprehensive DVD editions of such horror classics as Re-Animator, Phantasm and Hellraiser.

Over the years, Anchor Bay Entertainment has released numerous special editions of The Evil Dead, each one more dynamic and diabolical than the one that preceded it, in an effort to continually satiate and satisfy the ravenous hunger of the film’s worldwide legion of fans. The Evil Dead Ultimate Edition tops -- and buries -- them all! Celebrate the original Sam Raimi masterpiece with two versions of the movie (for years, fans have demanded the release of the original full-frame version), six new featurettes that revisit the film’s cast, crew, biggest fans and enduring legacy, plus never-before-seen production footage, outtakes and deleted scenes, reconstructed and restored specifically for this edition! That’s enough to fill several Necronomicons!

Upon its release in 1982, The Evil Dead was immediately hailed as a new horror classic. Best-selling author Stephen King called the film “the most ferociously original horror film of the year.” In the ensuing quarter of a century, The Evil Dead is one of the most influential, landmark horror films of all time.

The film launched the careers of writer/director Sam Raimi (the Spider-Man trilogy, Darkman, The Quick and the Dead), producer Robert Tapert (“Xena: Warrior Princess,” The Grudge, the Spider-Man trilogy) and executive producer/leading man Bruce Campbell (Bubba Ho-Tep, Sky High, Man With the Screaming Brain).

Five college friends, including Ash ( Campbell ) drive to a remote cabin in the woods for a weekend of fun. Little do they realize that their fun will soon turn to fear, as an unstoppable supernatural force has been unleashed and surrounds the woods around them. One by one, they fall victim to the demonic forces at large, resurrected as murderous demons which can only be destroyed by dismemberment. Easier said than done. Soon, only Ash is left to combat the evil before it consumes the world. It’ll be a fight to the death … and to the undeath.

The film’s mammoth success has thus far inspired two equally popular sequels, Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn and Army of Darkness, as well as a series of popular video games with rumors of an upcoming remake produced by Raimi and Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures.

The Evil Dead also stars Ellen Sandweiss (Satan’s Playground, Brutal Massacre: A Comedy, the upcoming The Dread), Betsy Baker (the upcoming Witches’ Night) and Sarah York (the upcoming Brutal Massacre: A Comedy).

Each disc in the Evil Dead Ultimate Edition contains extensive bonus features, many exclusively produced for this special edition and featuring never-before-seen footage:

The Latest in Euro-Horror from BCI: A Terrifying Two-fer!

PREPARE FOR THE HOLIDAYS

WITH A FEAST OF EURO-HORROR FROM BCI!

“THE LORELEY’S GRASP”AND

“HORROR RISES FROM THE TOMB”

Available For the First Time, Remastered in High Definition;

Serving on DVD November 13th

Los Angeles , CA – What better way to usher in the holidays than with a heaping helping of Euro-horror? BCI Eclipse, a Navarre Corporation Company, under their Deimos label, unveils the latest additions to their ever-growing Euro-horror library with the November 13th DVD release of Amando de Ossorio’s The Loreley’s Grasp (Las Garras de Lorelei) and Horror Rises from the Tomb (El Espanto Surge de la Tumba), starring and written by Spanish horror film icon Paul Naschy. Continuing its dedication to preserving and presenting classic Euro-horror films on DVD , Deimos presents these two classic horror films for the first time in their most complete, uncut original versions, remastered from the original negative in high definition. For side dishes, each film boasts a tasty selection of bonus features, including the original Castilian and English-dubbed audio tracks, theatrical trailers, photo galleries and alternate scenes. SRP is a paltry $19.98 for each title. Order date is October 5th.

Written and directed by Amando de Ossorio, The Loreley’s Grasp reaches out from the depths. In a university town by the Rhine river, young women are turning up dead…savagely torn to pieces and their hearts ripped out of their bodies. With casualties mounting and local authorities at a loss, helpless to find who – or what – is causing these horrible murders, a nearby school for young women hires an experienced hunter to find and kill the murderer. The hunter will soon find out that horror is only skin deep and that his target is an alluring and mysterious being – the Loreley – who is already searching for another victim to use in a gruesome ancient ritual.

Written by Jacinto Molina (aka Paul Naschy) and directed by Carlos Aured, Horror Rises from the Tomb is another terrifying chapter in the Euro-horror legacy of Paul Naschy. In 15th century France, the warlock Alaric de Marnac is beheaded for crimes against humanity and his equally guilty mistress also viciously killed, but not before the pair put a curse upon the descendents of their executioners. Featuring midnight séances, the undead rising from marshes, generous doses of nudity, blood-drenching heart-ripping and eerie atmosphere, Horror Rises from the Tomb rightfully deserves its place of a hallmark of Euro-horror.

The Loreley’s Grasp hands out these gripping special features:

o Complete, uncut version
o Anamorphic Widescreen (1.85:1)
o Liner notes by author Mirek Lipinski (www.naschy.com) with rare photos and stills
o Two audio tracks: In Castilian with English subtitles and English dubbed track

The Most Awesome Piece of Film EVER is coming out!!

This is a long time favorite of mine. I must have watched it a dozen times at least and that was only when I was a kid. The cover art shown is actually the same cover art that was on the VHS tape I would rent all the time as a kid despite what Foy would indicate.

More on this awesome news from the Foywonder

Attack of the Super Monsters on DVDIf ever there was proof that everything and anything is getting released to DVD these days, the announcement that Attack of the Super Monsters will soon be permanently enshrined on digital media is surefire proof of it. If you've never even heard of Attack of the Super Monsters, then this DVD is a must-see for you, especially if you like Japanese monster movies and Inframan-level insanity.

Attack of the Super Monsters, originally released in 1982, is actually a badly English dubbed movie compilation of the first four episodes of a low budget Japanese TV show from 1977 called "Dinosaur Wars Aizenborg" that was produced by Tsuburaya, the folks responsible for "Ultraman". This was not one of their prouder productions.

Media Blaster Upcoming Schedule Till July 2007

Many thanks to Richcard York at MB for giving HK FILM NEWS their upcoming schedule. We'll post some cover scans later. I can tell you that many of us at HK FILM NEWS are looking forward to Frankenstein Conquers the World.

5/1
ART OF THE DEVIL 2-pack (Tokyo Shock)

5/15
BLACK KISS (Tokyo Shock)
Asuka (Reika Hashimoto), an aspiring model, moves to Tokyo to pursue
her career. She takes up residence with a moody acquaintance named Kasumi
(Kaori Kawamura). Across the street from their apartment, Asuka witnesses a
bizarre murder — the body was flayed, disemboweled and arranged into a
hideous work of art. A series of coincidental murders occurs, all of which contain
what is possibly the murder's calling card: a black lip print dubbed "The
Black Kiss". This gruesome crime thriller in the tradition of SILENCE OF THE
LAMBS and SEVEN was originally known as SYNCHRONICITY ("Shinkuronishiti") and
features Ken Mitsuishi (AUDITION) and Masanobu Ando (BATTLE ROYALE).

Special Features:
Deleted Scenes
The truth of Black Kiss
Mystery of Black Kiss
Theatrical Trailer

5/29
ICHI THE KILLER Blood Pack (Tokyo Shock)
When a yakuza boss is murdered and his money is stolen, both truth and
revenge are brutally sought. Leading the charge is Kakihara (Tadanobu
Asano), the bleach-blonde pain junky whose interrogation methods are
fetishistically sadistic. As the layers of the sordid tale are peeled
back, it appears that someone is trying to turn rival gangs against each
other.
The centerpiece of this strategy is Ichi the Killer (Nao Omori), a
mysterious and completely unhinged master of slaughter. When the final
showdown comes, it's a psychologically cataclysmic event. This one of a
kind, over-the-top, stomach-churning, live-action cartoon from Takashi
Miike (VISITOR Q, IMPRINT) remains an extreme and influential modern classic.

6/12
ID (Tokyo Shock)
The ID, our unconscious, contains all our selfish drives and desires.
Our conscious keeps these instincts in check, repressing them, in order to
maintain the civility required by society. But what happens when the ID
takes control and is allowed to run free? You get ID, this grim,
shocking, contemplative and experimental exploration of the horror that lies
dormant within us all. Lawlessness, death and complete psychological abandon
befall a rural community, home to factories, pig farms and general squalor.
Here, it's difficult to tell the humans from the animals. What transpires
ultimately defies description. But this rumination on repression,
apathy and the influence of violence is brimming with raw and unbridled
creativity.

Director Kei Fujiwara began her career as an actress and later gained
notoriety for her involvement in Shinya Tsukamoto's legendary TETSUO:
THE IRON MAN (1989) as well as her directorial debut, the disturbing yet
artful ORGAN (1996).

6/26
FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS THE WORLD (Tokyo Shock)
The still-beating, disembodied heart of Frankenstein's monster was
transported from Nazi Germany to Japan for experimentation during World
War II. But the heart is believed lost when Allied Forces drop the bomb on
Hiroshima. Several years later, a feral boy is running rampant through
Hiroshima, killing and feasting on small animals. This causes alarm and
arouses the curiosity of an American scientist, Dr. Bowen (Nick Adams),
and his assistant (Kumi Mizuno, MATANGO) who take the boy into their care.
Soon, the boy is growing at an alarming rate and exhibiting incomparable
strength.
The scientists only have one explanation: this is the mutated monster
of Frankenstein himself! But this town isn't big enough for two monsters.
The destructive, underground-dwelling Baragon emerges to do battle with
Frankenstein to the death!

Known originally as FRANKENSTEIN VS. BARAGON, this fan favorite Toho
production has been a popular fixture on American television for the
past quarter-century. Tokyo Shock is proud to bring FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS
THE WORLD to U.S. DVD for the first time.

DISC ONE:

SODOM THE KILLER
Bad things happen when innocent blood is shed. In the early 1700s, Lord
Sodom Ichibei is happily celebrating his wedding day when his
wife-to-be suddenly dies during the ceremony. In his search for an explanation, he
kills any and every suspect he comes across. When Lord Ichibei tortures
and kills two innocent girls, Catherine and Theresa, their death brings
about a curse on the Sodom family. Three hundred years later, one of Sodom's
descendents, Ichiro, is also set to be married. But Catherine has been
reincarnated as Ichiro's sister and kills everyone at the wedding. This
transforms Ichiro into the evil and vengeful "Sodom the Killer", a
cursed man hell-bent on slaughter and world destruction. But Theresa,
reincarnated as a detective, is keeping a watchful eye on Ichiro...

Hiroshi Takahashi, writer of the seminal Japanese horror film RINGU,
makes his directorial debut with this twisty and campy take on the genre he
helped create.

Shaw Brothers May and June Celestial Schedule

Thanks to dragonsdenuk.com for posting this schedule.

Basically May 24th is going to be awesome for Masked Avengers which I have to see since seeing a clip of I think Lu Feng descending on this amazing cylinder from above. June 17th is going to be even better. Killer Constable for the fact that it inspired apparently parts of The Killer (and that it is apparently awesome) and Dragon Missile since no one has seen this film since it first played as an attempt by the Shaws Brothers to counter Jimmy Wang Yu's Master of the Flying Guillotine. It got crushed and disappear (although I have read a report of a person who claimed to have seen it dubbed in the Caribbean in the last decade during a theatre run). Still I think there is going to be something for everyone.

Celestial Pictures Release Schedule

New Dragon Dynasty Shaw Release Dates!

Big thanks to Bobo at KFF for spotting this. Interestingly all of these entries list the audio as Chinese and English and specifically TWC as publisher. The dates for all of these seem to be 4/10/07. Keep in mind that these have not been confirmed yet, but all are available for pre-order at amazon.com

Here are the entries:

New Dates and Specs For Dragon Dynasty Titles!

According to hkflix.com Shaolin Wooden Men and Snake and Crane Arts of Shaolin have been rescheduled from 4/17/07 to 10/7/07. While this is unfortunate, it seems to be that despite some fears (such as the wording on the Dragon Dynasty Shaw entries at hkflix.com), that these titles have not been postponed indefinitely. Interestingly Hapkido aka Lady Kung Fu still has a release date of 4/17/07. Now this film was originally in the same wave as the two Jackie Chan films. This most likely means one of two things. First, the page just hasn't been updated or second, it is still scheduled for 4/17/07. Hopefully we will know soon. Born to Fight (the Thai remake) has also been rescheduled by only a week from 4/17/07 to 4/24/07. No word on the Shaw titles yet.

On the brighter side of things purported specs for Born to Fight have been posted as asiandvdguide.com
