Chico Marx Forgets His Lines In "THE COCOANUTS" (1929) (video)

Chico and Harpo are breaking Bob (Oscar Shaw) out of jail...

...because Bob's girlfriend Polly (Mary Eaton) is being forced to marry bad guy Harvey Yates.

But Chico can't remember the name "Harvey Yates" to save his life.

So Bob finally has to turn psychic and say it for him.

"She's gotta have you. Because tonight she gonna be, uh, engaged."
"To who?"
"To Polly. He's engaged to Polly."
"POLLY'S GOING TO MARRY YATES?"

Nice mind-reading there, Bob!

And to top it all off, Harpo gets his foot stuck in the door on the way out.

The Three Stooges: Getting Hurt For Real (video)

Stooging could be a hazardous profession...

In "Gem of a Jam" (1943), the table Curly's on tilts too fast and his head hits the window sill.
The gash required nine stitches.  He immediately returned to work.

"Heavenly Daze" (1939) director Jules White assured Moe that a pen gag wouldn't hurt Larry.
It did.  The pen deeply punctured Larry's forehead, and Moe took off after White.

Ironically, Moe sustained the most on-set injuries.

A blast of gunk to the face in "Oily to Bed, Oily to Rise" (1939) required medical attention to Moe's eyes.

In "Self-Made Maids" (1950), a twisted ankle has Moe diving out of camera range to save the shot.
He hits his head on a bed frame and is knocked cold.

In "Pardon My Scotch" (1935), Moe does a pratfall that results in several broken ribs.

He rises and finishes the shot before passing out.  The rest of the scene was filmed later.

Two Modern Vehicle Bloopers In "Shane" (1953) (video)

It's one of the great westerns of all time...with two great modern vehicle bloopers.

The first one has been erased from the movie...but can still be seen in the trailer.
Look right past Shane as he approaches the Starrett ranch.

The second one happens later when Joey is talking to Shane.
Look through the open window right behind Joey, right over the top fence rail.

And to think, the people in those vehicles never knew they were in this movie.

Dog Lifts Leg In "THUNDERBALL" (James Bond, 1965) (video)

Bond's in trouble...

Wounded, and chased by armed thugs...
...led by lovely but deadly Fiona Volpe (Luciana Paluzzi).

And as if that weren't enough...
Could that be Agent 00-K9, providing a distraction for Bond?

Oh well, they did say "Thunderball" would be Bond's wettest adventure yet.

Fun Bloopers! in John Wayne's "THE ALAMO" (1960)(video)

John Wayne's "Best Picture" nominee is a stirring epic...

...with some fun bloopers.  Such as:

The Disappearing Tennessean...
The electrical cord on Jim Bowie's gun...
Fake rocks blowing in the wind...
"Dead" Lawrence Harvey moves his hand out of the way...
Half a sword sticking out of Chill Wills' back...
John Wayne steps on an extra's head...
Mexican army extras just standing around...

And yet, after all that...it's still a great movie!

Extreme Bloopers in "12 TO THE MOON" (Columbia, 1960)

These astronauts will be the first humans ever to set foot on the moon.

Well, except for that guy who's already walking around on the moon.

Wait, WHAT?

"Hey, isn't that the top of the set up there in the upper left--?"

"I don't see anything, sir."

Yakima Canutt Chases Himself in "THE LUCKY TEXAN" (John Wayne, 1933)

Legendary stuntman Yakima Canutt acted and performed stunts in most of John Wayne's "Lone Star" westerns in the 30s.

After a fight between Duke and Eddie Parker in "The Lucky Texan", Yakima doubles both of them in the same scene.

First, Yak stands in for the fleeing Eddie Parker...and then for the pursuing John Wayne.

Thus getting paid to go chase himself! Nice work if you can get it.

"FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX" (1965): A George Kennedy Blooper

With a cast this large, it's hard to maintain perfect continuity.

Keep your eye on George Kennedy. First he's standing up, and then...and then...

BOING!  He's sitting in the doorway!

2 Fun Bloopers From John Wayne's "THE ALAMO" (1960)

(1) Watch the guy behind Duke just disappear into thin air.

(2) Jim Bowie's gun isn't cool just because it has seven barrels. It's also cool because it has...?

Mystery Backdrop: "Creature From the Black Lagoon" (1954)

Smitten with the lovely Kay (Julie Adams), the Creature kidnaps her and takes her to his secluded grotto.

It's a primitive, prehistoric place... ...so what's with those white columns in the background?

For a clue, let's look back at another Universal-International Picture from the previous year...

Wolf Man Hands Blooper in "HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN" (1944)

In "House of Frankenstein", Lon Chaney, Jr.'s Wolf Man character not only gets probably his best makeup job (from makeup maestro Jack P. Pierce) AND his most fearsome man-to-wolf transition scene ever, but he also gets...MAN HANDS! (No fur!)

Oops--somebody forgot! Or, more likely, director Erle C. Kenton didn't intend for Chaney's hands to be seen in the shot.
