KIERSEY CLEMONS TO STAR IN SOPHIE KARGMAN’S SATIRICAL THRILLER ‘SUSIE SEARCHES’ FROM 141 ENTERTAINMENT
From acclaimed producers of Sundance and Spirit award-winning films ‘Ingrid Goes West’ and ‘Marjorie Prime’
Los Angeles – December 18, 2020: 141 Entertainment today announced their upcoming feature film, dark comedy thriller Susie Searches starring Kiersey Clemons (Antebellum, Hearts Beat Loud, Dope) in the title role. Sophie Kargman (Query) will direct the feature film which she developed with William Day Frank (Hibernation) who penned the script, based on their short film of the same name. Clemons will also serve as an executive producer on the project.
Susie Searches centers on Susie (Clemons), an awkward college student who seizes the opportunity to bolster her popularity— and her overlooked true-crime podcast— by solving the disappearance of a classmate. But as her investigation proceeds, we realize that the truth and Susie aren’t at all what they seem... The film is now in development with production due to start in London early next year.
Adam Mirels and Robbie Mirels will produce under their 141 Entertainment banner, with Nicola Smith executive producing. The 141 producing duo has received acclaim for past titles including; Ingrid Goes West starring Aubrey Plaza and Elizabeth Olsen, which won Best Screenplay at Sundance; and Marjorie Prime starring Jon Hamm, Geena Davis and Tim Robbins which took the Alfred P Sloan Prize at Sundance. 141 received three Independent Spirit Award nominations and won the prize for Best First Feature. 141 is currently in post-production on the upcoming Ana Lily Amirpour feature, Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon starring Kate Hudson.
“Kiersey Clemons is such a special talent who continually delivers magnetic performances, so she is dream casting for this unique role,” says Adam and Robert Mirels. “We strive to bring new voices to the screen, so we are delighted to work with Sophie Kargman – an extraordinary storyteller with a fresh vision – on her debut feature.”
"I'm so excited to be working with Sophie Kargman on such a dark and witty film,” says Clemons. “I fell in love with the heart and peculiarity of Susie right away. Stories like this, starring women like me are few and far between. It's a dream to bring her to life alongside our fearless leader Sophie."
Writer/director Kargman sold a true-crime series to eOne and is developing a darkly comedic drama series with Akiva Goldsman’s Weed Road Pictures. Her award-winning short, Query, starring Justice Smith, Graham Patrick Martin and Armie Hammer, premiered in competition at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival and then went on to screen at over two dozen festivals around the world before being acquired by HBO Europe, Canal+ and Movistar+ (Telefonica).
Clemons boasts an impressive slate including starring roles in Disney’s most recent iteration of Lady and the Tramp, Amazon’s The Only Living Boy in New York, and the indie darlings, Dope, Sweetheart and Hearts Beat Loud. She also appears as “Iris West” in the upcoming release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Clemons most recently executive produced the scripted podcast, Ghost Tape alongside Automatik and QCode and will produce and star in the upcoming AGC feature based on the story of Lauren Simmons.
Clemons is repped by UTA, RANGE, Jackoway Tyerman and ID and Kargman is repped by APA and Christina Campagnola at GRL BND, and Jared Bloch at Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson.
