Kharis' Black Eyes in "The Mummy's Hand" (Universal, 1940) (video)

When Universal finally made a sequel to "The Mummy" (1932), a new character, Kharis, was created.

He was played by Tom Tyler, better known as "Captain Marvel" in the popular Republic serial.

Closeups of Tyler replaced those of Boris Karloff in the flashback scenes.
As Kharis, Tyler retains his mummy wrappings throughout the film.

And, unique to this one film in the series, his eyes are blacked out.
In some shots Tyler appears to be wearing lenses.
In others, the "black out" effect seems to have been added later.

Some wide shots reveal Tyler's unaltered eyes...
...as does a closeup from the film's trailer.

Some viewers prefer the black eyes.  Others find Tyler's own expressive eyes to be more effective.

I neither own nor claim any rights to this material.  Just having some fun with it.  Thanks for watching!
