About Lumos

Lumos is fighting for every child’s right to a family by transforming care systems around the world. We are an international charity striving for a future where every child is raised in a safe, loving home, supported by family to help them thrive.

On average more than 80% of children in orphanages have living parents, and research proves that these institutions can harm a child’s growth and development. Yet there are still an estimated 5.4 million children trapped in institutions globally.

Lumos sheds light on the root causes of family separation – poverty, conflict and discrimination – and demonstrates that children can safely be united with families. By pressing governments to reform care systems, and by building global expertise and capacity with partners, we ensure no child is forgotten.

Founded by author J.K. Rowling, we are lighting a path to a brighter future where all children can grow up in a safe and loving family.

We believe in a family for all children. We are Lumos.

Was TCM's Robert Osborne Ever On "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES"? (video)

Years before gaining fame as the film-savvy host of Turner Classic Movies...

...Robert Osborne appeared in the 1962 pilot episode of "The Beverly Hillbillies."

Which, at first, was titled "The Hillbillies of Beverly Hills."

More than just a guest actor, Osborne was right there at the series' start.

Later, of course, we'd know him as the soft-spoken gentleman...

...who introduced our favorite classic films on TCM.

All the Glenn Strange Monster Scenes From "HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN" (1944) (video)

Although the original Frankenstein Monster, Boris Karloff, stars in this film...

...the Monster is played this time by actor-stuntman Glenn Strange.

Karloff is the mad scientist who restores the Monster to full power.
Strange, the fourth actor to star as the Monster, is memorable in the role.

In 1942, he played a werewolf in "The Mad Monster."

He would later gain television fame as Butch Cavendish on "The Lone Ranger"...
...and as Sam the Bartender in the 1960s western "Gunsmoke."

Strange enjoyed recounting how Karloff gave him advice on how to play the Monster.

Makeup master Jack Pierce had been searching for a new Monster when he spotted Strange.
The brawny actor's imposing physique and craggy features convinced Pierce he'd found his Monster.

He would play the Frankenstein Monster two more times, in "House of Dracula" (1945)...
...and "Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein" (1948).

His likeness adorns much of the Frankenstein Monster merchandise...
...and even accompanied some of Karloff's obituary notices.

George Kennedy Sex Scene ("THE CONCORDE...AIRPORT '79")(video)

The holy grail for many rabid, true-blue George Kennedy fans...

...must surely be his bare-shoulders sex scene with Bibi Andersson.

It may be considered one of the absolute high points in non-erotic sex cinema...

...just as the film itself is a milestone in non-exciting action cinema.

KILL LIST (2011) -- Movie Review by Porfle

One of those bad-vibes flicks that stays in your gut after you watch it like a meal that doesn't agree with you, KILL LIST (2011) is a movie that may not agree with you, either.  But it's well worth staying with till the end if you have a strong stomach.

Director Ben Wheatley's mix of traditional and documentary style camerawork keeps us right in the story of an out-of-work hitman named Jay (Neil Maskell, ATONEMENT) whose relationship with fiesty wife Shel (MyAnna Buring, THE DEVIL'S CURSE, THE DESCENT) grows more volatile each day.

During a disastrous dinner with old military buddy Gal (Michael Smiley, BURKE AND HARE) and his creepy girlfriend Fiona (Emma Fryer), Jay is offered a lucrative job in which he and Gal will eliminate a number of targets on a list given to them by a mysterious client.

After a long buildup showing Jay going through his everyday life with Shel and their beloved son Sam, the start of his murderous mission with Gal takes the movie down a dark path that gets more twisted and frightening with each new revelation.  The first victim is a priest, whom the two hitmen assume must be guilty of some sexual transgression and thus deserving of his fate.

The second is a man who refers to himself as a "librarian" and possesses something so horrifying it prompts an irate Jay to dispatch him as brutally as possible.  This sequence, involving some very realistic gore effects, will either have you glued to the screen or scrambling for the door.

What first appears to be simply an ultra-violent thriller makes a sudden detour through the twilight zone before veering into full-out horror territory after Jay and Gal begin to realize just how sinister their unknown clients are.

Thus follows a descent into paranoia that infects every aspect of their lives as it becomes clear that they're part of a larger and more terrifying agenda than they could've imagined.

The final scenes, which take place in a dark forest in the dead of night, have an almost BLAIR WITCH vibe only much more visceral.

Lead performances are all fine, with Neil Maskell totally convincing as a violent man who's not inhuman--he loves his family--but frightening because he's a human capable of the most monstrous acts.  MyAnna Buring is a strong presence as Shel, making her love-hate relationship with Jay convincing and giving her character a no-nonsense resolve that will be amply displayed later on.

As Gal, Michael Smiley has a less showy but equally pivotal role, while Emma Fryer's Fiona is just plain spooky.  Much of the dialogue is improvised to give it a natural quality.

To give away any more of the plot would be a disservice to potential viewers, so I'll just say that the rest of KILL LIST is a journey into some really dark, claustrophobic horror that's both pulse-poundingly tense, relentlessly downbeat, and, finally, downright grotesque.

The Creators of ALIEN Bring A New Terror To Earth

Something very strange is happening in the quiet coastal village of Potters Bluff, where tourists and transients are warmly welcomed… then brutally murdered. But even more shocking is when these slain strangers suddenly reappear as normal, friendly citizens around town. Now the local sheriff (James Farentino of THE FINAL COUNTDOWN) and an eccentric mortician (Academy Award® winner Jack Albertson of WILLY WONKA & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY) must uncover the horrific secret of a community where some terrifying traditions are alive and well… and no one is ever really DEAD & BURIED.

Melody Anderson (FLASH GORDON), Lisa Blount (PRINCE OF DARKNESS), and Robert Englund (A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET) co-star in this genuinely chilling horror hit written by Ronald Shusett and Dan O’Bannon (ALIEN), directed by Gary A. Sherman (POLTERGEIST III), and featuring ultra-grisly gore effects by Oscar® winner Stan Winston (JURASSIC PARK). In honor of its 40th Anniversary, Blue Underground is proud to present DEAD & BURIED in an eye-popping new restoration approved by Director of Photography Steven Poster, ASC (DONNIE DARKO), scanned in 4K 16-bit from its 35mm IP, with Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio, and packed with exclusive new and archival Extras!

Brandon Alinger, Prop Store COO, commented on the upcoming auction:"We love all things Indiana Jones-related here at Prop Store, but the character’s signature fedora is easily one of the most iconic pieces we’ve ever dealt with. The fedora was custom-made for Ford to wear in Temple of Doom and even features the character’s initials, “IJ,” in gold on the inner band. This is just one of the pieces in our collection of Indiana Jones items that we have in this year’s live auction."

About Prop Store

Prop Store sells original movie props and costumes and related memorabilia, regularly hosting live and online prop and costume auctions. Operating since 1998, Prop Store founder Stephen Lane’s love for movies led him to begin hunting for the same props and costumes that were used to create his favourite films. He found that he could not only provide collectors with access to their most coveted pieces, but also establish archival standards for a new, pop-culture hybrid of fine art and memorabilia collecting – prop art. Prop Store handles prop disposal, sale, archive and auction services to production companies and distributors as well as fixed price item sale on its website, www.propstore.com
