...director John Huston makes it pretty obvious.
Gold Hat (Alfonso Bedoya) strikes with his machete.
The exact same shot is repeated twice to show multiple blows.
Then they watch Dobbs' head roll downhill toward the water...
...leaving a trail of blood.
While not graphic, the implication alone is enough to shock.
