Jason Momoa to star in "BRAVEN"

Highland Film Group to Begin International Sales at the
Toronto International Film Festival

LOS ANGELES (September 3, 2015) – Highland Film Group (HFG) is handling international sales on Lin Oeding's action thriller BRAVEN starring Jason Momoa (THE RED ROAD, STARGATE: ATLANTIS, GAME OF THRONES, ROAD TO PALOMA).

The screenplay is based off of an original story by Mike Nilon and was written by Thomas Pa’a Sibbett.  Jason Momoa and Brian Mendoza’s Pride of Gypsies will produce alongside Nilon and Molly Hassell.  HFG will introduce the project to foreign buyers at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.

When Joe Braven (Jason Momoa), a humble logger residing along the U.S./Canada border, is confronted by a group of deadly drug runners in his secluded cabin in the mountains, he must do everything in his power to protect his family.  Little do the elite drug runners know the unassuming man they've encountered has an impressive bite colliding two dynamic forces - one fighting for the lives of his family, the other for the love of the kill.

HFG’s Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier jointly commented, “BRAVEN is the perfect addition to our growing portfolio. Lin Oeding’s background in stunts tied with Jason Momoa’s physical mastery assures us that the film will deliver heart-pounding action at every turn.”

Momoa was recently announced as Aquaman for Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment’s JUSTICE LEAGUE Part One and Two, as well as the same character for the James Wan directed AQUAMAN.  Director Oeding comes from an impressive background in action design for studio blockbusters including ANT MAN, THE EQUALIZER and the recent box-office sensation STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON.

Momoa is represented by Agency for the Performing Arts and LINK Entertainment.

At Toronto, HFG will also continue international sales on Osgood Perkins’ FEBRUARY, starring Emma Roberts, Kiernan Shipka, and Lucy Boynton, which will world premiere in the Vanguard section.

Highland Film Group (HFG) was started in 2010 by Arianne Fraser, who partnered with Delphine Perrier in 2012 to form an independent worldwide sales, production and film financing company. HFG provides financing through a combination of pre-sales to help cover senior and subordinated debt, gap, tax credit, and facilitates capital for mezzanine and equity financing.  HFG’s slate includes the upcoming Bruce Willis actioner EXTRACTION, also starring Kellan Lutz and Gina Carano; the A24 distributed BARELY LETHAL starring Hailee Steinfeld, Jessica Alba and Samuel L. Jackson and produced by Brett Ratner; the Brewer Brothers’ THE TRUST, distributed by Saban Films, starring Nicolas Cage and Elijah Wood; Ami Canaan Mann’s JACKIE & RYAN, distributed domestically by Entertainment One, starring Katherine Heigl and Ben Barnes—which had its world premiere at the 2014 Venice International Film Festival; and Eli Roth’s THE STRANGER, distributed domestically by IFC Films.

Pride of Gypsies was founded by Jason Momoa in 2010, a tribe of artists & filmmakers with an undying thirst for creating unique and inventive content, harnessing an atypical approach to production. Last summer, Pride of Gypsies released its first feature film, Road to Paloma which marked Momoa’s directorial debut.  This past winter, the production company expanded into the commercial world producing Carhartt’s 2015 summer/winter national TV campaign starring 2014 World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner.  Amongst other projects, Pride of Gypsies is currently developing Momoa’s passion project, Enemy in the Valley, the true story of the Hawaiian hero, Ko’olau the Outlaw.
