Highland Film Group Boards Jeffrey Morris Sci-Fi Thriller "PERSEPHONE" To Handle International Sales -- Mary-Louise Parker Stars




HIGHLAND FILM GROUP BOARDS JEFFREY MORRIS’ “PERSEPHONE” TO HANDLE INTERNATIONAL SALES

Cassian Elwes will produce the Mary-Louise Parker, Brianna Hildebrand, Emile Hirsch and Malcolm McDowell Starrer; International sales beginning in Cannes


LOS ANGELES (May 8, 2019) – Highland Film Group announced today that they will be handling international sales of writer/director Jeffrey Morris’ sci-fi feature Persephone, beginning in Cannes later this month.

The year is 2185. Earth is no longer habitable, having forced the remaining survivors into space in search of a new home. With the discovery of the massive, lifeless planet Persephone, a team of three astronauts—resolute pilot Darcy Clarke (Hildebrand), offbeat engineer Tanya Baxter (Parker), and passionate scientist Kyle Niven (Hirsch)—is sent to tackle an unexpected lifeform risking human inhabitance and to determine: Can humanity survive without repeating the mistakes of the past?


The cast includes Mary-Louise Parker (“Weeds,” RED, R.I.P.D.); Brianna Hildebrand (Deadpool, Deadpool 2, “Trinkets,” and Playing with Fire); Emile Hirsch (Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, Into The Wild, Speed Racer); and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, Halloween, Time After Time). Cassian Elwes (Lee Daniel’s The Butler, Mudbound, Dallas Buyers Club) will produce and handle US rights.

Anne Marie Gillen (Fried Green Tomatoes, Under Suspicion) will also produce with Jere Hausfater serving as executive producer and Pixomondo Studios (“Game of Thrones,” The Battle of Midway) co-producing and creating the VFX. Principal photography will commence in Q4, 2019.

Elwes produced such critically–acclaimed films as Netflix’s Academy Award® nominee Mudbound, Focus Features’ Academy Award® winner Dallas Buyers Club, and Lee Daniels’ The Butler starring Forest Whitaker.  He is currently in post-production on Dee Rees’ The Last Thing He Wanted for Netflix starring Anne Hathaway and Ben Affleck; and Medieval starring Ben Foster, Sophie Lowe, and Michael Caine, also with Highland Film Group.

At Cannes, Highland will be selling Vaughn Stein’s Inheritance starring Lily Collins and Simon Pegg; Dimitri Logothetis’ Jiu Jitsu starring Nicolas Cage; Marc Meyer’s thriller We Summon the Darkness starring Alexandra Daddario; Trauma Center starring Bruce Willis; Michael Polish’s Axis Sally starring Al Pacino; Southland starring Bella Thorne; Skylines, the third chapter of the successful franchise, starring Lindsey Morgan; and Ghosts of War starring Brenton Thwaites, Theo Rossi, and Skylar Astin.
