Dan Lantz’s Modern Indie Sword and Sorcery Epic Makes World Premiere At Dances With Films (DWF 24) August 31, 7:00pm
Philadelphia, PA, August 12, 2021—ALPHA RIFT, Philadelphia-based writer/director Dan Lantz’s sword and sorcery story of an average man fated to hold a secret demon at bay, will have its world premiere at the prestigious Dances with Films festival (DWF 24), August 31 in Los Angeles at the TCL Chinese Theatre, 6925 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, CA, 90028.
This film is a project twenty-years in the making that explores a legend of modern-day knights fighting supernatural evil. As the first chapter in the ALPHA RIFT universe, Lantz intends to keep the crowd-pleasing entertainment going by expanding the mythology into a franchise that examines origin stories and traces various characters and archetypes through the lore.
Nolan and Gabby in Game Store in ALPHA RIFT
In ALPHA RIFT, Nolan Parthmore (Aaron Dalla Villa, PLEDGE, Gotham, Duels) is just a regular dude, running his game store and flirting with his co-worker Gabby (Rachel Nielsen, GREEN PIECE, Mare of Easttown) when destiny comes calling. Beginning in the Dark Ages, “The Noblemen” are a bloodline of guardians against “The Devil’s Apostles,” dark forces escaped from hell onto earth.
After receiving a mysterious antique helmet, Nolan discovers he is an heir to the bloodline when he dons the helmet and calls forth a demon recently released from his supernatural prison: Lord Dragsmere (Philip N. Williams, The Wire, The Blacklist, Broad City).
To avoid the same fate as his deceased father, he must quickly learn to harness his power and open the Alpha Rift: the only defense against these supernatural foes. Leading the Noblemen are Richard Corbin (Lance Henriksen, ALIENS, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, Millennium) and his lieutenant Vicars (Graham Wolfe, The Punisher, Mr. Robot, For Life) who must guide Nolan as he is forced to become the hero he never wanted to be.
Lord Dragsmere feels a little green in ALPHA RIFT
In the era of comic-universe superheroes, the TCL Chinese Theatre lends itself well to the popcorn movie inspiration for ALPHA RIFT’s family-focused big-screen action, filled with fight scenes and unique production locations. The father of avid gamers and a self-proclaimed nerd himself, Lantz tackles a nostalgic fable within a new framework.
As one of the best-attended film festivals in Southern California and a showcase of new talent, the 24th Dances with Films eagerly returns to an in-person, eleven-day affair after virtual screenings in 2020 due COVID-19. Lantz echoes this excitement, “We’re thrilled to not only be able to share our film with audiences at this celebrated event, but to be able to do so in real life again rather than at home.”
ALPHA RIFT tells the modern-day medieval tale of a fanboy drawn into the eternal fight between good and evil, made to leave his comfort zone of mediocrity, whilst reluctantly assuming his destiny to become a hero.
