17th Annual Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles Announces Closing Night Gala and More




17th ANNUAL INDIAN FILM FESTIVAL OF LOS ANGELES ANNOUNCES CLOSING NIGHT GALA AND MORE

World Premiere of Megha Ramaswamy’s THE ODDS will close the festival on April 14, with cast members in attendance for gala event

TV panel participants and screening of award winning documentary REASON also confirmed


LOS ANGELES, CA (March 12, 2019) – Following the recent announcement of their 2019 lineup including an April 11 opening night gala event honoring legendary Indian actress Tabu paired with a screening of her latest film ANDHADHUN, the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) today announced that director Megha Ramaswamy’s THE ODDS would close out the festival on April 14.

THE ODDS is a coming-of-age tale about two teens who skip school on an important exam day and go on a fantastical journey through Mumbai. THE ODDS features supporting turns from Abhay Deol (Dev D) and Priyanka Bose (Lion), each of whom are expected to attend the Gala along with Ramaswamy, lead actress Yashaswini Dayama and co-star Monica Dogra.

Both the Opening and Closing Gala presentations will take place at the Ahrya Fine Arts Theater in Beverly Hills with dinner receptions to follow hosted by Indian restaurant Spice Affair.

IFFLA has also confirmed veteran director Anand Patwardhan’s acclaimed documentary REASON, an urgent and thorough exploration of Indian society and the country’s slide away from secular democracy. REASON premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, won the grand jury prize at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, and recently had its US premiere at the True/False Film Festival.

This year the festival will also host a moderated panel featuring successful South Asian professionals working across various fields in the television industry. The panel, to be held at the Regal L.A. Live theaters on Saturday, April 13, boasts a  lineup that includes actor/comedian Nik Dodani (Murphy Brown, Netflix’s Atypical), director Meera Menon (The Walking Dead, GLOW, The Magicians), writer Fawzia Mirza (CBS’ upcoming The Red Line), writer Chitra Sampath (Good Behavior, Southland), writer and co-creator of Fox’s The Resident Roshan Sethi, and actor Dhruv Uday Singh (Freeform’s Good Trouble, CBS pilot Pandas of New York).
