Jane Russell's Censored Dance in "The French Line" (1953) (video)




Howard Hughes' production of "The French Line" featured a dance number by Jane Russell...

...which, in 3D, promised to "knock BOTH your eyes out!"

After the premiere, it was denied a Production Code seal and denounced by the Catholic church.

The film was re-edited. Much of Jane's dance was seen in long shots.

(Especially THAT part.)

The cut version was still denied approval. Hughes released it anyway.
