The famous opening shot in Francis Ford Coppola's "The Godfather" (1972)…

...is a slow, extended zoom out from a tight closeup of Bonasera (Salvatore Corsitto).

The introductory shot of Cloris Leachman in American Zoetrope alumnus John Milius' "Dillinger" (1973) seems to use it as a template.
