Berlin, Feb 13, 2017–– Bron Studios in association with Creative Wealth Media has come aboard to produce and finance FONZO, starring Academy Award® nominee Tom Hardy (The Revenant, Mad Max: Fury Road and upcoming Dunkirk) as the infamous Al Capone.
Written and to be directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle), FONZO will be produced by Bron’s Aaron L. Gilbert (Fences, Beatriz at Dinner, The Birth of a Nation); Russell Ackerman and John Schoenfelder (TAU) for Addictive Pictures and Academy Award® nominee Lawrence Bender (Inglorious Basterds, Good Will Hunting, Pulp Fiction) for A Band Apart. The executive producers are Creative Wealth’s Jason Cloth and Andy Pollack.
FONZO, a project Trank initiated, will begin prep this summer with a fall shoot scheduled. BLOOM is handling international sales. CAA and WME Global, which arranged financing and packaged the film, are handling North American rights.
A ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist, Alfonse Capone was the most infamous and feared gangster of American lore. At the age of 47, following nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots Alfonse’s mind and his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life.
“I love the script and have full confidence in our director, Josh Trank,” said Gilbert. “With great partners in A Band Apart and Addictive; and one of the greatest actors of our time in Tom Hardy; I couldn’t be more thrilled about this group coming together.”
FONZO is the next project from writer/director Josh Trank who burst onto the scene with Chronicle. Tom Hardy will next star in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk marking his third film collaboration with the director and Taboo, a new 8-part TV series produced by Ridley Scott. Trank is represented by Management 360, WME, and Mitch Smelkinson.
