"SCORE" -- Gravitas Ventures Secures Right to Film Composer Documentary
GRAVITAS VENTURES SECURES NORTH AMERICAN RIGHTS
FOR ICONIC FILM COMPOSER DOCUMENTARY ‘SCORE’
Los Angeles, CA (January 11, 2017) — Gravitas Ventures has acquired first-of-its-kind documentary “SCORE: A Film Music Documentary” for North American rights. The film takes an unprecedented look at the creative process of film score composition with some of the best-known artists in the field including Hans Zimmer, John Williams, Danny Elfman, Trent Reznor, Randy Newman, Howard Shore, Rachel Portman, Jerry Goldsmith, Quincy Jones, the late James Horner, and more.
Additionally, viewers will get to hear from iconic filmmakers like James Cameron and the late Garry Marshall. Among the many diverse and treasured film themes included in the film are the James Bond theme, “Star Wars,” “Indiana Jones,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Titanic,” “The Social Network” and “Mad Max: Fury Road.”
“SCORE” debuted at International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) and premieres in theaters this May.
“SCORE” not only explores the power of film music to give us goose bumps; it breaks down the anatomy of major motion picture scores and shines a spotlight on the creative struggles and musical challenges faced by the world’s top soundsmiths. Plunging into the tricks composers use to make a powerful moment stick in our hearts, “SCORE” details how moving melodies and unconventional sounds can commemorate and elevate the most dramatic moments of our favorite films and real life, including historic moments like the election-night acceptance speech of President-Elect Barack Obama. “SCORE” explores how music can turn heroes into villains and tension into triumph.
In tracking the progress of modern-day film score development, “SCORE” uncovers the intricate detail, passion and raw talent that goes into writing a score that echoes in moviegoers' heads for decades.
“We wanted to create something that hadn’t been done before — the definitive look at the craft of film composing,” said Director Matt Schrader, who left a job with CBS News to begin nearly two years of in-depth interviews with more than 50 composers in the film. “SCORE is an ode to these modern maestros and the ever-evolving art form.”
“Film scores resonate in our lives in a timeless quality,” said Nolan Gallagher, Founder and CEO of Gravitas Ventures. “Bringing the stories behind this special art form to the big screen is a privilege.”
“SCORE” is executive-produced by Emmy® Award winner Matt Schrader who also directed. Jonathan Willbanks also served as Executive Producer; Robert Kraft, Trevor Thompson, Kenny Holmes and Nate Gold are the Producers.
The deal was negotiated by Nolan Gallagher for Gravitas Ventures and by Linzee Troubh from Cinetic Media on behalf of the filmmakers.
