AUSTIN, Texas — Feb. 3, 2015 — For Immediate Release — The first televised season of the cult-favorite web series, Ain’t It Cool with Harry Knowles (AICwHK), will make its network debut on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 9:45 p.m. CST, premiering on PBS’s Austin affiliate KLRU-Q, following Q Night at the Movies. The show will also be available soon after the initial broadcast on AintItCool.com , KLRU’s website and through the PBS digital family.
Each week, KLRU-Q presents a feature film at 7 p.m. CST, which will now be followed by the half-hour, seven-episode AICwHK series, which can be seen in Austin on HD antenna channel 18-3, Grande channel 284 and Time Warner Cable channels 20 and 1268.The broadcast version of AICwHK is a spinoff of the hugely popular film-geek website, AintItCool.com – which was launched in February 1996 and now enjoys more than 5 million unique viewers per month – and theoriginal Internet broadcast version of the series, which aired to acclaim on the Nerdist Channel on YouTube.
Hosted by the iconoclastic film, television and pop culture critic Harry Knowles (the self-proclaimed "Head Geek"), AICwHK is an inventive and visually entertaining romp through reviews of films and genres that are loved, admired – and sometimes scorned – by Knowles, who has frequently been a guest over the years on such shows as Siskel & Ebert at the Movies and Politically Incorrect.
Set in his "magical basement" full of rare and unique movie memorabilia, the husky, wild-haired (and sometimes wild-eyed) Knowles is once again joined by "Pops," his father and projectionist, and "Boiler," his cranky alter-ego … as well as a who’s who of Hollywood guests.
The season’s guests include: Academy Award-winning director Danny Boyle (127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire, 28 Days Later …, The Beach, Trainspotting, Shallow Grave); House of Cards creator Beau Willimon; Golden Globe- and Emmy Award-winning actor Burt Reynolds (The Longest Yard, CBS’ Evening Shade, Boogie Nights, Deliverance); filmmaker and horror royalty Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street films); noted author, film historian and critic Leonard Maltin; and more.
After the 30-episode Nerdist run of AICwHK ended in 2012, a Kickstarter campaign to fund the broadcastseries (ending in fall 2013) raised $128,029, far exceeding the Ain’t It Cool team’s $100,000 goal. Amongthe campaign’s more than 700 supporters were such high-profile filmmakers as, J.J. Abrams, Bill Condon, Guillermo del Toro, Peter Jackson, Rian Johnson, Eli Roth and Edgar Wright.
