Bored with his life as a computer programmer, Jason (Joe Tyler Gold) dreams of becoming a professional magician.Stacy (Valerie Dillman) achieved that dream, only to be spit out by the male-dominated magic establishment, leaving her to fend for herself on the street, passing the hat to tourists and picking pockets.
They both have something to prove. The Brotherhood of Magicians Competition gives them one last shot at success. But as the sparks fly between them, will Stacy pull Jason into her life of crime?
Inspired by Joe Gold's experience as a professional magician, performing over 500 kids' birthday parties, DESPERATE ACTS OF MAGIC features magic tricks by real magicians, with no special effects or camera tricks. Whenever possible, the magic was shot and edited in one continuous take with no cuts.
DESPERATE ACTS OF MAGIC is directed, produced, and edited by Tammy Caplan and Joe Tyler Gold with a screenplay by Gold. Starring Gold (Never Say Macbeth), Valerie Dillman (Charlie Valentine, Fracture), Jonathan Levit (X-Files, Flash Forward, Masters of Illusion), and John Getz (jOBS, Blood Simple). Executive Producer is Lee Aronsohn. The Director of Photography is Brian Taylor and the Composer is Bruce Kiesling. Lead Magic Consultants are David Regal and Tony Clark.
