"In the Blood" -- Anchor Bay and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment Acquire New Gina Carano Action Film
Action-Packed Thriller Featuring the Former MMA Fighter Turned Action Star Slated for Theatrical Release In 2014
LOS ANGELES, CA – Anchor Bay Entertainment President Bill Clark announced today that Anchor Bay Films has acquired North American rights to In The Blood, a taut action thriller starring former MMA fighter turned action star, Gina Carano. The film was directed by John Stockwell (Blue Crush, Into the Blue) and co-stars Stephen Lang, Luis Guzman, Amaury Nolasco, Cam Gigandet, Danny Trejo, Treat Williams, Ismael Cruz Cordova and Yvette Yates. The film is slated for theatrical release in 2014 and will be jointly distributed by Anchor Bay Films and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
“The first time I saw Gina Carano fight with Pro Elite, I knew I had to make a movie with her," stated Kevin Kasha, Executive Vice President, Acquisitions and Co-Productions. “In The Blood is the perfect film for Gina and we at Anchor Bay Films are proud to be releasing it.”
Gina Carano plays Ava, a newlywed whose husband disappears while they are on their honeymoon in the Caribbean. The grieving wife passionately and recklessly pursues the men she believes kidnapped and killed him. As she tracks down those she believes are responsible, she uncovers a deep conspiracy that becomes a trail of bloody revenge through a lush, tropical backdrop. The film is a suspenseful, non-stop ride that showcases Gina’s formidable physical force.
“In the Blood represents the start of a strong female franchise character and audiences are going to love seeing Gina Carano as ‘Ava’,” said producers Shaun Redick and Ray Mansfield.
Carano changed the face of competitive fighting when she became the first female MMA fighter, drawing new audiences to the sport and setting a television milestone in the first primetime female fight. Her popularity with fans led Yahoo to rank her one of the “Top Ten Influential Women of 2008”. In 2011, Carano gained critical acclaim in the leading role of Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire. She also co-starred in this year’s Universal blockbuster Fast & Furious 6.
In The Blood was written by Bennett Yellin and James Robert Johnston and were represented by Jennie Frankel, Magnet Mgmt. The film was produced by Shaun Redick and Ray Mansfield of Movie Package Company, with Andrew Mann as executive producer. Cash Warren and Marina Grasic also serve as producers. Dale Johnson, Nicola Horlick, Lee Portnoi, David Arnold, Stefan Sonnenfeld and Glenn M. Stewart executive produced.
The film was financed by The Way We Roll Productions and MICA Entertainment. London-based Derby Street Films developed the screenplay. Cargo Entertainment’s Mark Lindsay is currently handling international sales.
